ABOUT OSAZE AKIL

Osaze Akil Stigler is a contemporary artist based in Atlanta, GA. His work takes a contemporary view on black autonomy of self, space, and divinity. He reimagines black subjects in regal depictions of power, comfort, and exaltation combining both historic motifs and experiences as well as Afrofuturistic thought processes. His art has been featured in Vogue Arabia, Blavity, and Beyonce’s “Black Parade Route”. He’s exhibited his work in New York City and Los Angeles, and his work has been collected by notable individuals and institutions such as the Orange County Museum of Art. He’s designed cover art for artists such as Dyllon Burnside, allowing his work to traverse various mediums and platforms. His background in urban planning and landscape architecture has fostered his exploration of “constructed space”, examining the power of having the ability and access to curate our own environments as African descended peoples. The intersection of fashion and beauty are also integral elements of his practice, often focused on femme subjects, used to highlight the significance of self-presentation and bodily autonomy. In addition to his artist practice, he is also a graduate of the University of Georgia, and is a practicing Landscape Architect and Urban Planner, focusing on inclusive design and sustainable community development.
